This exceptional and unique product made from 100% musk ox fiber will amaze you! The undercoat of the musk ox, known as qiviut, is one of the finest and rarest natural fibers in the world. Our qiviut yarn is much softer than other musk ox yarns available on the market. The fiber comes from Alaska, the yarn is produced in Quebec (Canada), and it is hand‑dyed there as well. We source this incomparable material from an Inuit cooperative in Quebec.

Weight for weight, musk ox wool is eight times warmer than sheep’s wool. It is also softer, smoother, and more cuddly than the undercoat of cashmere goats. For this reason, attempts have been made in Alaska to domesticate musk oxen as suppliers of this exclusive fiber. The undercoat of the wild animals is collected by hand from the ground and processed into extremely high‑quality qiviut products.

Qiviuk means “down” and refers to the inner, insulating fleece — the musk ox’s winter coat. Thanks to this fleece, the animals withstand arctic storms and extreme sub‑zero temperatures with ease. Arctic peoples have long known about the warming properties of qiviut. Now you can enjoy these exceptional qualities as well.

Musk ox fiber is extremely rare and truly special, as harvesting and processing qiviut is about eight times more labor‑intensive than comparable natural fibers. About 60% of the volume of the qiviut fiber consists of tiny air channels, which explains its unparalleled thermal insulation. Worldwide, only about 5–6 tons of musk ox fiber are available per year. Cashmere, by comparison, reaches around 350,000 tons.

Products made from the undercoat of the musk ox will remain a true rarity in the future. It is no coincidence that qiviut is also called “Arctic gold.” This material is almost impossible to describe — you have to feel it. Once you hold musk ox wool in your hands, even high‑quality cashmere no longer feels soft enough.

with a mild wool detergent. Dry flat, preferably on a terry towel, to avoid stretching.
Under no circumstances should you dry it directly on a heat source or in the blazing sun!
